Neal died suddenly of apparently natural causes Sunday January 21 or early the 22nd. Associates became concerned because he missed a court appearance Monday morning. Family from Kentucky and his fiancé came to Louisiana this week to make final arrangements for the Capital Defense Attorney well known across the State, who had been serving as the head of the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center founded by Clive Stafford Smith. Neal came to Louisiana from Kentucky in1991 and plunged into Louisiana's Death Penalty swamps. He was also a CJA Panel attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
